We had a great weekend with all my family ...meaning both my brothers and thier wives along with all the children were able to get together and have a great Christmas meal....we do not think we will be able to get together this year due to all the different work schedules in our lives.... sad to say family always seems to take a back seat to our lives when we have jobs.
I really saw it in the ministry while working as the children's director for a large church...I did not get too much family time as my job was doing alot of extra evening events for small bible studies and such plus having a handicap child that was not able to go out in large populated areas...so my husband and son stayed home while me and the other 3 kids practically lived at the church...funny thing was this was suppose to be just a part time job....There is no part time job when you are dealing with a 168 member volunteer list for the nursery ministry...and you are starting up a new moms night out program once a month...along with hiring worthy staff members to work the services you need to cover....but I loved it..I felt soo good serving God in this way...it was like all my gifts given by God were now being used in the correct place..my own church.
I missed the dinners with my husband and actually having great conversations with my kids. We were usually too tired and the ride home would be in silence with the younger two falling asleep until we would get home. It was hard but joyful at the same time. We just let time fly by us and loose the time with our families.... I now know I am to say NO to anything that comes before my time with my family. If it consumes more time than our family time we must say NO.
I have learned how to stand up to things that are wrong and say NO... comes in handy when you see people trying to take advantage of you or mis represent themselves or the programs they have invited you to join. Just walk away and do not look back.
I hate to see how the economy struggles that are going on now cause so many families to stay apart due to jobs. Even homeschool families are needing both parents to go back to work and look for ways to bring money into thier homes with the cost of gas and food lately.
Anyway, we had a great family visit.
Today, we hosted a fun gingerbread house building day. The girls had a great time with friends and shared lunch here at the house. We are having such fun trying to do something Christmasy every day as our count down to the big day arrives.
We are planning a candy mold making day soon too.
This past Friday the girls had thier music recital and did a great job. I love to watch them perform. I hope to help them scholarship on the music talents they both have.
